When I started with Sylvan, the number one job was to help the students. Today it is hard to find an owner that has an educational background.For example, in St Louis,half of the centers are owned by a guy from Canada that sold can goods, TV station videoed him saying "I am not an educator, I am a businessman".
He drives a $80,000 car. The other half are owned by a female tyrant, back ground is radio sales, she has fired managers and teachers that had a question or comment about her centers, if you disagree, you are gone. She drives a $100,000 car.
I finally was done with Sylvan when I meet the new Sylvan president, Mr Cohn, a Lawyer and he was dishonest with me and slippery.

My 9 year old daughter started Sylvan this past fall. We prepaid for 160 hours of tutoring in Math and Reading.
We just learned that our daughter is dyslexic. She has not improved academically, and wasn't far behind to begin with. She does have a slower time processing information than others, which has always been our and her teachers concern.
We pulled her out of Sylvan and requested a refund to which we were told that there is a no refund policy. Is there any way to recoup some of our money?
My daughter is scheduled to take her ACT in October 2019. I find the tutoring at Sylvan is not geared towards maximizing her test taking skills.
The tutors are always different and not interested in her overall preparation. What is the best way to get a refund?
I worked for the female tyrant and you are 100% correct about her but the teachers in the center really do make a difference in the students. It all comes down to what the Center Director will and will not do to sell a family a service they don't need.
Most who work for KC won't sell what families don't need. That is one of many reasons why she can't keep a Center Director for longer than 2 years.
Some however, are just as bad. I hope anyone who was swindled by Stephanie Morgan or Karen Carroll receives a refund.
my child just started with sylvan and I thought it was a one to one and they will help with homework and they do not it been almost 2 week since my child has been going I want to get out, it not worth the money 1200 for 24 hours
